BCIT's Forensic Video and Surveillance Technology Laboratory

Our Lab

Over the last decade or so, the growth in CCTV monitoring has been explosive.  Proper recovery, handling, storage and analysis of video evidence is critical to any investigation.  In fact, video evidence is more prevalent than other form of forensic evidence at most crime scenes.  However, this increase of video evidence comes at a price.  With all the many varieties of CCTV systems out there, professionals now face more challenges relating to compression, image quality, authentication, storage, and conversion.  In addition, a CCTV system must be capable of producing visual evidence acceptable in a court of law, which in some situations may not be the case.

Established in 2004, the BCIT Lab is the only known forensic video training and research lab of its kind in North America, capable of providing professional video analysis solutions and other video and security related resources.

Furthermore, our lab is also used for teaching purposes and as an R&D facility to address some of the current difficulties facing the forensic video and surveillance technology discipline. Additionally, We conduct research into the development of hardware and software-based tools useful for forensic video and imaging applications.

At our lab we employ the latest in forensic technologies and techniques to handle a variety of projects from both the public and private sector involving both civil and criminal litigations.  For further information please contact us.
